What Is Paint Protection Film

A Clear Shield Against Everyday Damage

How Paint Protection Film Works

Paint protection film is a thick, clear urethane layer applied directly over your vehicle's paint. When a rock or piece of debris hits the car, the film absorbs the impact instead of your clear coat. That means fewer chips on the hood and bumper, fewer scuffs on high-traffic areas, and paint that stays closer to the way it looked when the car was new.

A Self-Healing Finish

The film we install has a self-healing top layer. Light swirls and fine scratches from washing or everyday contact fade away on their own with heat, whether that comes from the sun or warm water. It is one of the easiest ways to keep a car looking freshly detailed between visits.

Nearly Invisible Once Installed

Clear film is designed to disappear into the paint. It keeps the factory color and gloss intact, and careful installation with wrapped edges helps it blend in so well that most people will never notice it. You get the look of untouched paint with a layer of defense on top.

XPEL Windshield Protection Film

STARTING AT $550

A clear film applied to the outside of the windshield to help guard the glass against chips and pitting from rocks and road debris. It keeps your view clear while adding a sacrificial layer between the glass and the road, which is a smart choice for freeway commuters and anyone who wants to lower the risk of a costly windshield replacement.

Built for Southern California Roads

Why Los Angeles Drivers Choose Paint Protection Film

Between freeway traffic, construction zones, and gravel kicked up by the car in front of you, Los Angeles roads are hard on paint. Weekend drives through the canyons and days at the track add even more risk to the front end, rocker panels, and rear fenders. Paint protection film takes those hits so your paint does not have to, whether your car lives in a garage or on the street. Even a single season of commuting can leave a hood covered in tiny chips that are hard to touch up.

It also makes sense financially. Original, chip-free paint is one of the first things buyers and appraisers notice, and guides like Edmunds factor a vehicle's condition into its value. Keeping the factory finish intact helps your car hold its value and avoids the cost of touch-ups or repaints down the road.

Our Installation Process

Precise Installation, Clean Edges

Prep and Inspection

Film seals in whatever is underneath it, so every installation starts with a thorough wash and paint decontamination. We inspect the surface closely under bright lighting, and if the paint has swirls or haze, we may recommend a round of paint correction first so the finish under the film is as clean as possible.

Cut and Hand-Applied

Our film is cut and hand-applied to each panel, with edges wrapped wherever the panel allows for a seamless look. On Full Body installations, we remove panels, badges, and trim where needed so every edge is tucked away and no film line is visible. Working indoors keeps dust out and helps every panel go on smooth. The goal is coverage that looks like part of the car, not something added to it.

Curing and Aftercare

After installation, the film needs a few days to fully settle. You may notice small moisture pockets at first, which are normal and clear on their own as the film cures. We will walk you through washing and care before you leave so your film stays clear and glossy for years.

Pairing Paint Protection Film With Other Services

Film and coatings work well together. Adding a ceramic coating on top of your film brings extra gloss and makes washing even easier, and it is available on our Full Body package. Many owners film the front of the car and coat the rest for a balanced approach.

If you want a different look, we also offer satin paint protection film for matte and satin paint, including full gloss to satin conversions, as well as color paint protection film that changes the color of your car while keeping the factory paint safe underneath. We are happy to help you compare options in person at the shop.

Questions and Answers

Paint Protection Film FAQ

  • How long does paint protection film last?

Quality film is built to last for many years with proper care, including regular hand washing and avoiding harsh chemicals. Ask us about warranty coverage for your package when you request a QUOTE

  • Can you see paint protection film on the car?

Our clear film is designed to be nearly invisible once installed. Wrapped edges and careful installation help it blend into the paint, so most people will never know it is there.

  • Will paint protection film stop dents?

Paint protection film is designed to absorb rock chips, light scratches, and scuffs, but it cannot prevent dents from heavier impacts. It is best thought of as a shield for the paint surface itself.

  • Can paint protection film be removed?

Film can be removed by a professional without harming the factory paint underneath. Many owners appreciate that the original finish stays intact for resale.

  • How long will my car be at the shop?

Plan on about one to two days for a Front Clip, two to three days for the Canyon / Track Pack, and three to five days for Full Body. Each installation needs time for careful prep and for the film to settle.

  • Which paint protection film package is right for me?

The Front Clip covers the areas most exposed to rock chips and suits most daily drivers. The Canyon / Track Pack adds rocker panels, rear fenders, and door edges for spirited driving, while Full Body covers every painted panel for complete peace of mind.
